Can't Get Any Gear?

Recommended Posts

Paul Smith

Hi

Got a question, the car was ok yesterday until i'd been driving for about an hour then it began to get difficult to get in gear. Didn't think much of this as that bracket that holds the cable was braking i assumed it was that. However now it wont get any gear, i fitted new wishbones yesterday and thats all i've done.

Any ideas how i may be able to solve this? Its odd that it wont select any gear now whether the car is hot or cold.

Apply some logic here Paul (please).

Has it got fluid in? (reference your other thread) EDITED: And is it the correct fluid?

Is the clutch working properly? (reference another of your other threads - pedal reattached properly?)

Have any of the gear rods popped off?

That's really it. If any of the above isn't correct it won't work, and if they are all correct, then your gearbox is shagged.

However I suspect it has something to do with the first two in the above list, as they are the things that have changed prior to this problem turning up.

Surely you've answered this yourself?? Or have you replaced this bracket and the problem hasn't gone away??

Thanks guys,

right, the bracket is still broken but i have bent back in shape and still isn't working. The fluid is correct and filled correctly, the clutch isn't the best i don't think so maybe its just given up. I don't think the gearbox is at fault as it goes in to gear ok if the vehicle is off, but still wont other wise.

Ok its sorted, it was that bracket when i was pushing it back ad it wasnt working i hadn't realised it'd twisted as well so took it off and welded it up, and i have all gears and a biting point on my clutch which is brilliant

Nice one, is the pedal feel improved now, or does it still feel really dead?

At the moment it feels alot better, but the real test will be my 30 mile drive to work in the morning. Fitted new wishbones yesterday, and sorted the door pins, and i have just bought new suspension bushes

Happy days, sounds like you've been cracking on with it! I'd get some group n topmount rubbers from bakerbushes and new bearings to sort out the worn rubbers and stiff steering ;)
