Homologation Plate On Mi16x4

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

Just picked up an mi16x4 for parts as a little project for me and Rich (dr sarty) and have just noticed a plate on the slam panel next to the vin plate with homologation stamped on it.

what does this mean?

here's a pic

Could mean at some point in it's life it's undergone some kind of approval process which means it complies with certain technical guidelines and that plate means it's eligible for racing within a specific league or racing series.

(that's based on Wiki info so take with a pinch of salt!)

Both my brothers 306 DTurbo's have them, as does my 405 Mi16, and my mums 405 TD estate IIRC.

See now you've got me interested I've found info saying that either the homologation means it's the alloy block engine, and then other info saying that a homologation mi16 is one with a special head (that complies with FIA regs) that can easily make 250hp, then some say that only special versions of the 405 were ever homoganiozed (sp??)

It's not got a 1.9 in anymore though :)

It's nothing specially unfortunately, it was just Peugeot hedging their bets in case they wanted to use them as competition cars - which they never did.

Well - it used to. Thought I'd spare the juicy details for when you've got it finished then you can let everyone covet it by explaining it all yourself :D

Looks like a type approval for several European markets - nothing to do with racing.

Yep, and those with better performance are more often to have that plate.

2 Mi16x4's and about another 2's worth of running gear yes.

They're not bad, well, until the transfer boxes break!
