Young 205 Owners?

I got my first car which was a 205 1.1 XL. Absolute beast! Between me and my GF we have had 8, and still have 4 now! We just cant stop buying them hehe.

I seem to manage to make most people i know want a 205 aswell. Its also great at college as everyone is scared of the Rallye as it sounds rediculously powerful due to the twin 40's lol. No-one dares race it

Seriously though, i dont think i could ever not have at least 1 205

It is just the "scrappage banger" comments that REALLY annoy me.

Haha I get that alot. My favorite is.

"With the money you've spent on that "scrap car" you could have bought a nice 02 Micra or something"

Someone actually said that, and meant it

A good mate of mine of the same age has just bought a brand new 2010 plate audi A4 1.8 TFSI in bright white.

He's signed some hideous hire purchace agreement. It's a very nice, comfortable car but I feel like a drug dealer every time I sit in it.

I don't even bother trying to justify why I like the french rattle box. Although he did agree it was pretty cool when I demonstrated LOOS on a wide, wet roundabout.

My 205 XS is my first car and I love it to bits.

Nearly all of my friends hate it except the couple of them who are really into cars.

Common nickname for mine seems to be the "deathtrap" simply because it has a few rattles.

Bought my first 205 GTI last year, i was 18

I love every single thing about it, every rattle, every little thing that doesn't work i.e. coin tray, because its my 205

I smile when i see it, drive it, and leave it

Theres something about a 205 that makes you have to look back at it as you walk away after parking up, I do it several times a day :P. I don't think you could say the same about all these so called "better" cars!

I bought my first GTi a week after my 18th. Bought my second one 3 months later. Drove my first one just after my 19th. Will continue to finish building both for another 2 years easily.

My love to 205 GTIs was born when I was 8 years old.My Dad bought red 1.9 205 gti (my favorite color is red) in 1996.It was amazingly nice looking and fast driving. After 2 years he sold it.It was my favorite toy (I wasnt driving but sitting inside of the car was my biggest fetish).I remember that one night during the summer I was sleeping in the car (the best night in my life)

After that I was very angry and very mad to my Dad.I promise my self that after getting my driving license (10 years after) at 18 years I'm going to buy myself 205 GTI..

And now I own black 205 1.9 GTI. :D

Always keep my word. :D

the only other car i've had since driving was a shieat ibiza really awful car to drive but it did the job for about 10 months, until I moved on to the 205 dturbo (I always had a thing for 205's mainly the GTI my uncle used to own I really wanted that car) it was in our garage we have owned the car for years it just needed some tlc, I then racked up around 20k in under a year during that time I bought another 205 my XS which i'm currently using and improving

I'm 27. My parents bought a graphite grey 1.6 in '88 and I was smitten - at the age of 6! My old man could drive it properly and because of the sound, speed and overall look of the car - I wanted one! After it was sold in the early 90s, my life was GTI-less for a number of years, but I never forgot about that car.

Then in the early noughties, my old girl bought a white G-reg and once again, I was all over it. I used to do the maintenance for her/wash it etc, just so that passers-by thought it was mine  Because i was a late starter in getting my licence (too much over-indulgence of life in general once I was working!) I never did get to drive it, even after she gave it to me (engine problem.) I later lost my job and could no longer afford to pay the rent on my lock-up and so she had to be sold. I let her go for £160 because I was desperate and it was one of my biggest regrets - EVER!! Car was almost mint prior to engine problem, which I'm sure i'd be able to easily sort out now...You live, you learn.

Anyway, the bug always remained, even after getting my licence. A couple of small froggies later (Clio, Saxo etc) I have recently rescued an '86 CTI because it was considerably cheaper to buy than a GTI (recession) and the insurance is now pocket money.

They rattle, they have the odd niggle, but as far as street-cred is concerned? I really don't care what anyone else thinks, the positive feedback I have received has been in the form of rubber-neckers staring at it and general positive comments and the only negative is from the wife who loves my Saxo, calling the CTI a heap! Just wait until she's driven it...

I will not engage in arguments with mates about the age of 205's or performance, because I know what I like, end of.

The only argument I have ever had is with myself over what colour I like the best. This was always white (biased!), but I have now completely got my sights set on the following...Buy a 1.9 Topaz, try to find/buy back my white one 1.6(G***NKR if anyone can help/knows of it I would be VERY grateful, it's SORNED apparently according to DVLA Enquiry) but first, I'm getting my CTI as good as it can possibly be.

Now, I wonder how I'm going to tell the wife I want to forget this year's all inclusive holiday for another two of 'em...

I'm 25 now (man I feel old) and have owned 4 gti's so far (my first was at 19). Sadly the current one is garaged due to lack of cash, but she'll be back soon!

I never really knew a lot about 205 gti's when I was younger, and only really got hooked when one was for sale down the road. I had some cash at the time, and went to see it. It smoked, was loud, and looked pretty unreliable, but the looks and the feeling from the car made me buy it!! Needless to say I never looked back!

I worked in a big architects, where people drove Audi's, BMWs, etc and I would say as a majority they all liked my little white 1.6 gti.

I think the most bad comments I get are from people who drive "dull" cars, and see a car as a means to an end. One guy at that practice asked me why I drove it, as it was old and knackered (which it wasnt!), but anyway, he had the nerve to say this, even after he drove a crappy rust bucket of a tigra!

At uni I changed quite a few opinions. I took them for a drive around the dales, they haven't been so sarcastic since!

Hi, at the grand old age of 29 i'd like to think im still classed as young.........

After have a company car for 6 years, i thought the time had come to have a go at owning a 205 gti that i could never afford to insure as a first time driver over ten years ago. Last weekend me and the girlfriend purchased a black 1990 1.6 gti after getting rid of her fiat 500 to use as her main car.. Granted its a little different and needs a few jobs doing to it but given time and with us both working in the motor trade and having a keen intrest in cars we are both looking forward to enjoy this car together. The amount of people that stop, stare and point at the car is unbelievable.

Im a car sales man for a Main VW dealer and i had it parked at work the other day amougst R32 and gti golf and the little pug was getting 100% of the attention. Just a shame there becoming a rare thing to see on the round.

Fingers crossed with the knowledge of you guys on here, mine should be on the road for a long time to come.....

Cheers

darryl

Got mine just before this Christmas at the age of 22. Always wanted one and now I am getting lots of comments from people in petrol stations on how they had one brand new and how much they miss it!

I am constantly fixing things, but I can only see this as a good thing. This is my 5th car now and before the 205 It would have taken me a day to change a wheel. I'm now confident enough to tackle anything she throws at me and my understanding of how cars actually work has increased 100000000000%

We have a little deal going on, I keep her on the road where she belongs and in turn I get an education.

nb: should probably also mention that this is my daily driver and also delivers pizza with me 3 nights a week!

Had a little 1.0 XE as my first car, popped soe 1.6 GTI alloys on it and the GTI seats, absolutly loved it. Really wanted a proper GTI but couldn't afford the insurnace, so when the XE came to an end I bought a Hyundai Amica with only 22k miles on the clock for bargin money.

Bought a GTI a few weeks ago needing some work doing (turns out more than the buyer revealed!!) so that's sitting in the driveway waiting for Feb '11 when I can afford the insurance!

Well im nineteen and i bought my first Gti when i was 17, I now own two Gti's.

A 1600 for my daily drive and a 1900 as a project and i allways get the same old "what do you want one of them for" off people, They normally change there mind when they come for a spin though.

insurance isnt all that bad either ..just a 100 pounds more than my corsa :(

The only problem seems to be that girls hate them with a passion, They either think theyre Chavvvy or to loud, But a cars no pulling tool :( so im sure il get over it.

Really dont think i could go without atleast one 205 ..totally hooked :D

Got my 1st 205 just after my 20th bday, Always wanted one and just love the retro stylings, used to get all the comments, dodgy pugs, made of tin foil etc. Even when it broke down about 20meters away from the entrance to work and I had to get out and push it the rest of the way and everyone took the p*ss....!

But when they are going well and you leave them for dust in their newer cars and the grin factor you get everytime you drive it, cant be beaten!

i'm 22. i got my first GTI when i was 20. I've always wanted one realy, there used to be a teacher at my primary school who had one and i used to think it looked awesome. when i got to 20 i decided to sell my vectra to get a smaller, and more fun car as i no-longer needed to cart as much about. i looked at williams clios, xr2is and a few other 'hot hatches' including a modern fiesta zetec S but when i saw a 205 it reminded me of school, seeing it come round corners at speed, and i test drove one and just knew it was the car for me. 2 year on i still have the car and have just dropped an MI into it as after using the pug day-day for over a year when i stopped using it as much and got another vectra to be the work-horse it made sence to make the pug a bit faster and more fun again ;)
