New(er) Fuel Pump And Now Performance Issues

Recommended Posts

sharpy

Hi, fuel pump a few weeks ago started making noises and the other day finally gave up. I then went down to "spoox" in enderby, and the sound chaps there gave me a pump for £35 which i thought was spot on. However, i took the car out and it drove very nicely....until you really put your foot down and got to high revs. It just would not pull and seemed INCREDIBLY slow. I'm reeeealy confused as to what it could be :S spoox say the pump was fully functioning, but second hand...maybe an issue??? I did put in a fuel injection flush in the tank, wasnt much petrol in it though....maybe an issue????? Spoox also did say it could be a blocked injector, but why when i just swapped fuel pump? :S ? I should say my car is a 1.9 GTI shell with a GTI 6 engine in it. Would appreciate peoples help, thanks :D

I'd disagree with your description of the source.

Was the pump the same as the one you took out, as there are differences.

Anthony

Was it a Phase 2 pump per chance?

I've seen quite alot of these that subjectively appear to work, but clearly aren't flowing enough fuel and lose you alot of power at high revs/load (when demand for fuel is at its highest). Recently Kyepan on here was complaining that his Mi felt very flat, and after swapping the pump for one that he got off me, was apparently much more spritely.

Oddly, I don't recall hearing the same thing of Phase 1.5 pumps - doesn't mean that it doesn't happen though.

Personally, I'd ask Spoox if you can swap the pump for another one as that would certainly be my first suspicion if that's all that has changed between the car feeling quick and it now feeling distinctly underwhelming. Problem is that you don't know that the next pump will be any better, but it's got to be worth a try.

Oh thanks anthony thats interesting, i had no about them. It is in fact a phase 2 pump on mine.....just seems very strange that after i changed it, it was so much worse :S because although my old fuel pump did pack up, when it worked, it did work well! Ye spoox say they checked it and it works, which with all fairness it does, just not very well :S does sound noisey still aswell.....

Spooks don’t have a very good rep according to some people.

That what Baz is hinting at.

You say at first you had the wrong pump? Was that the one that was in the car and working! Is it the “sound chaps” that said you had the wrong pump and have now given you the right one?

If the only thing you have changed is the fuel pump I would try and borrow one and swap it to see what happens.

Oh i see.....i have heard similar things off other people with all honesty. What happened was, the fuel pump packed up so i went to spoox, they gave me a phase 1 fuel pump so i went back and they gave me a phase 2. The one that is in and i'm havin issues with, is the same as the one that i took out originally.

If I was them (But I'm not) I would offer you another Pump to try as it all points towards that, A blocked injector is a bit far fetched as you;ve got the Fuel Filter and Filter in the injector's as well,

The pump only takes 10 min's to change so it's not like a couple of hours out of your day.

Other thing it may not be a GTi pump but a Mono point injection one maybe?
