Clutch Pedal Wont Come Up?

Recommended Posts

Paul Smith

HI I drove down the road this morning and as i got to the bottom and pushed the clutch down thats where it stayed??? any ideas what this could be ?

I reved her up and she slipped into first so i drove back up the hill but the clutch will not come back up at its own accord and if you pull it up it just drops back down again.

I'm reckoning on it being the cable but any advice or suggestions?

Least expensive option is that the cable's snapped.

Remove your clutch pedal (don't lose the spring) and see if the inner cable comes with it.

If it does, then use your pedal to make sure you get the correct replacement cable i.e. BE1 or BE3.

OK found the problem, clutch cable was fine. Its the bracket that holds the clutch cable on the gearbox. The clutch cable has like a rubber stopper to hold it in place whilst the cable moves. this has a death crack and had broken so I have bent it back to the appropriate shape which should hold it, but will need a new braket any idea on what it is called or where I can get one?

U-shaped plastic chunk on the end of the outer cable? Sits in the gearbox casting? As far as I'm aware it's part of the cable; you need to replace the whole thing (but I remain to be proven wrong!)...

Unless you can find an old knackered cable and rob that bit. Anything in a breaker's with a BE1 or BE3 'box should do I'd have thought.

Ah, might be a bit more difficult if it is part of the cable, I thought it might be a seperate piece.

is it a metal piece? it sounds like a BE1 setup, the bracket is bolted to the gearbox and is not part of the cable.

a picture would help massively, what year is the car and does it have a lift up reverse lever with reverse next to 1st?
