Can an 8v flywheel be fitted to a gti6 .I'am using a 1600 be3 box and want to keep my nearly new comp clutch. The flywheel on my 1900 gti is also lightened and i'am keen to use it.

it will fit but wont have the timing teeth for the TDC sensor.

if you want to keep your current 200mm clutch and get a flywheel with timing teeth you need a flywheel from a Motronic 1.9 gti or a 1.8 306/406 engine, (same part)

Cheers are these easily obtainable and are they exp. I rather do this and use my comp clutch as its only done a couple 100 miles

Scrapyards are full of 406 and Xantia 1.8 16v's which have the correct flywheel, so not hard to find

Put up a wanted post on here, and someone might well have one.

Got the xantia 1.8 flywheel or so its meant to be and have gone to fit the clutch. The problem is the fly wheel is 230mm but the clutch is 200mm and no way will it fit. My clutch is a paddle comp type from my 1900 gti 1600 gear box and i've only done about 150 miles on it at the most so i would like to still use it. Does any one know the diameter of the 1800 fly wheel , have i got the wrong one. My other problem is my car is on my mates lift and hes keen to get the space back, so i really need to sort it so we can get the engine in.

:)

no idea on the diameter of the flywheel itself, all I know is that they use a 200mm friction plate and a similarly sized friction surface.

if it is a 230mm clutch then I think that would be an 8 valve turbo or a HDI clutch.

The other way round my clutch is 200 but the fly wheel is 230! :)

Are you sure it's definitely a 1.8 306/406 flywheel, and stupid question but you are measuring the diameter of only the area where the friction plate runs on I assume rather than the whole flywheel?

1.8 (XU7) are definitely 200mm clutches.

I've got a 1.8 16v flywheel from a 306 at Colin Satchell's. I'll be passing you on the 12th as I am going to sort a few things on the car if you want it..
