I would wave, but never seem to see any Gti's when i'm driving mine.

I'm thinking of waving at fellow Range Rover P38 drivers, but they seem to look quite miserable, so i haven't braved it yet.

Stuff like WRX/AlmeraGTi and even the 306GTi6 can be just a sporty car for most owners I bet.

WRX drivers always used to wave at my wife when she had her Scooby, and that was just a lowly Sport model.

I remember driving my Bongo I used to have. Bongo drivers literally go into a fit when they see another one, arm waving, flashing, honking etc!

You should have joined the Bongo club. There are rules on how you are supposed to greet fellow Bongo owners. I think it's a lot like FIght Club, "The first rule of the Bongo Club, is that there is no Bongo club" :)

I only ever see them in the Mondeo. :)

When I'm in the 205 I either give them a flash or a beep-beep or something, generally goes down well. :D

You mean the horn in your 205 works? Thats alarming.

I've yet to pass another GTi whilst on the road in mine. I thought I did once and waved, but as I passed it it turned out to be a base model 5 door with a GTi front bumper/valance/fogs.

I was a member of Bongo Fury while I had mine, an equally technically informative forum such as this one but for Bongos, and the camaraderie was fantastic on there. I was often after small bits and bobs, one chap offered to post me a load of stuff and then send him a cheque for what I thought it was worth to me, amazing.

Yes there are strict rules of Bongo engagement. I think one rule was if you spotted a Bongo and weren't in your own one the dedicated hand signal was raise one arm so your hand is above your head, and then straighten your arm upwards, emulating the pop-top roof going up. Bit like the Masons I guess, just with Bongos instead. :)

Haha. I passed this place the other day: http://www.imperialcar.co.uk/

Some sort of Bongo mecca. There's about 30 parked out the front.

I was going to suggest that we need a special "I own a 205 too" hand signal for when we're not in the Pug.

It seems like I only ever see other 205 GTIs when I driving around in the Focus.

I make sure I wave or flash the lights if I'm in the 205 but have stopped doing it when I'm in my 306 since noticing the amount of odd / comedy looks you get but 99% of the time they wave back anyway.

Knee jerk reaction I think, TBH I get more waves back from people I don't know than those I see driving that I do.:)

They claim not realise its me / recognise my car.....

"Christ - it's that idiot Graham in his french baked bean can - he's waving like a window-licker on speed again - look straight ahead and pretend you haven't seen him"

never even thought about doing this in my 205gti, i'm from the mini scene and all classic mini drivers wave/flash/beep to each other. just never crossed my mind doing the same to other 205 drivers, sounds good though

:D

:(

Don't tar the innocent with your brush...

It's not really much of a wave though tbh, flash the lights & lift the right hand off the wheel.

Maybe thats why they don't see me & I should try the above method for gaining their attention...

Graham.

The waving game is always fun. If you time it right EVERYONE will wave back, regardless of whether you know them or not. :(

I reckon we should use the Team America "secret signal". :(

lol^ - i always give a flash to a fellow gti driver. There is a white gti lookalike which i flash round by me. It looks like a gti from the front, then it goes past with 5 doors and one of those god awful boot spoilers (under the rear screen). Damn false alarms.

When i was driving my 1.1 litre, its surprising how many people with base models acknowledge you. Its a bit more subtle than a wave or a flash of lights. It's more eye contact that says they share your pain. Faulty manual choke FTL.
