Acknowledging 205 Drivers

Given the age and comparative rarity of GTIs that remain on the roads (I hardly see any now round where I live)

 

What are your thoughts about acknowleging other owners whilst on the road?

 

I have owned a few cars that often got a knowing nod or wave from other owners (WRX, Almera GTi, 306 Gti-6, 528i, Golf mk2...)

 

Is this totally sad or is it good to be proud of the car you are in?

 

You can be left feeling bit silly when you just get a blank stare back

I have done. I generally get more thumbs up and flashes from the saxo/106/clio brigade.

i used to in my gti when i had it

theres a few gtis by me and allway a nod or a thumbs up came back from them

 

the xs i dont get it as much though

 

i just think why not though

bikers nod at each other

classic mini drivers flash each other and wave

theres a lot of people who do so i wouldnt feel a fool doing it

I've waved at several in the past few weeks and always got a wave back.

I think of all the cars you mention the 205GTi probably warrants an exchange most (and also Mk2 Golf GTi) because if you see one it's pretty much guaranteed to be a enthusiast. Stuff like WRX/AlmeraGTi and even the 306GTi6 can be just a sporty car for most owners I bet.

 

I've not drvien mine on the road for a few years, but I can't actually remember when I did when I last saw one either!!

I still do, whilst driving my ratty old ZX..... I do get some very strange looks though!

Used to get quite a few waves/flashes in mine. If I left for work early, i'd always pass a guy in a red 1.6 who'd wave. He had a canoe tied to the roof one morning!

 

Last summer a middle aged guy in a white 1.9 pulled up next to me at a junction. We both had the windows down and exchanged a few pleasantries until the cars behind started to beep! My girlfriend thought I was a total geek!

 

There are several around Bournemouth/Poole, not many on here though.

I Always wave.

 

When I was a bus driver I had a conversation with a guy in a mint red 1.9 out my window, turns out he was driving it home having bought it that morning!

 

Think he was pretty chuffed to meet another enthusiast, my passengers probably thought I was a right sad bastard!

 

I'm all for breaking down social barriers, and as soon as someone drives a 205, you know you're going to have something in common (unless it's a chavved one).

My g/f has a smart fortwo and she always does the same, and most people wave and smile back, though many are just estate agents and ignore her lol

It does feel like youe are in a 'club' because they are soo much fun to drive and so rare now.

Generally I do wave at other 205 GTi drivers, except the couple round here that have abomination chav mods done to them, I have a little cry afterwards and die a little more inside ever time I see those two.

Hah I always wave - as long as i remember, sometimes I'm just daydreaming and forget to!

 

Quite often get a wave back too.

 

Me and a friend were driving down the M3 last year when I saw an identical graphite 1.6 in the other lane. Much swerving and mad waving later I finally got a response - friend thought i was mad!

i always flash/ wave at other drivers even when im in the vectra/mini/van they give puzzled looks unless im also in the 205. theres probably a fleet of 205 owners round me who think that im warning them of a mobile camera up the road!

in the mini i always flash other minis but they rarely flash back.

I remember driving my Bongo I used to have. Bongo drivers literally go into a fit when they see another one, arm waving, flashing, honking etc! I've had some funny looks waving to 205 GTi people when I was in the Bongo.

 

Slight side note. I took 3 others from my company to 5 a-side the other night, 2 now want a 205, 1 vowed never to get in one again!

funny this threads up,saw a 205 tonight on the A1,pretty sure its was jimistdt from leeds but didnt see the driver really,either way quick flash was in order

 

there is a old guy in my village that has the most stunning condition rallye in standard condition,often he waves at me ect,never seen him to talk to though as id love some pics of his rallye,best i have ever seen.....ever

I only ever see them in the Mondeo.

 

When I'm in the 205 I either give them a flash or a beep-beep or something, generally goes down well.

I always wave but if I'm in my Saab I often forget this and get some really wierd looks.

 

I think ALEX lives not far from me and every time I've spotted ?him I've flashed the lights - he must think who's the wierd twat in the silver Saab!!

I always try to let on when I see one, once went as far a pushing a broken down one off the road that I'd passed one morning, thought they might have been on here, but apparantly not.

Mind there's hardly any 205gti's up my way, started a competition with the wife as she thought there was more 205gti's than Nova's,

 

so fare sins summer of last year we've see 16 different nova's and 7 different gti's
