I Think My Mechanic F.....upp My Gentry!

Recommended Posts

Ok, ehh, i was hoping i would get by writing this drematic story of my gentry going in and out of mechanic shops since mid november last year.

Thing is, i was wondering for some time about a water loss in my car, i would fill up my water supply and about a week later i would have to fill it up again (mostly depending on how mouch i would use my Gentry).

Everything was fine thogh, there were no othere problems with it unless just the fact it was losing water, but the problem about it was that i didnt see where the water was going, there were never any puddles of water under the car, i tryed asking around for trix to see if i could force some water to come down from the engine, but nothing came. i started geting suspisious off the head gasket!

One day the car started losing more water so i had to fill it up EVERY DAY!

So i take it to my mechanic and i tell him its losing water and i dont know where its going, he looks into the cap where we fill up our oil, and sies its the head gasket and i should not drive it any longer, so i hand over the keyes of my car. Which today im thinking was the worst mistake.

The repair takes about 2 weeks of him opening the motor up and doing the regular stuff, and the opening it again to fix the whole head (i dont know why, but he sied it was importand).

I got left with a 1,042.62 pound bill......in current currency.

i drove the car for about 30 minutes and returned it becous it was working like a 1.1 yaris, i have the 1.9!

Later that day he calls me and tells me that he timed it right so now its ready.

I go pick it up and drive it for about 2-3 hours then the motor just shuts off?!?!

At that point i was going to anothere country to spend Christmess with my girlfriend in Germany so i left it standing outside my fatheres place for about a month.

When i come back in mid Jan, i take it to the mechanic but he sies he cant find out whats wrong and tells me to take it to anothere guy he knows, we take it there in mid Feb and he figures out that the brain for the igniton had burned over and the ignition it self two, so that gets replaced, now, keep in mind, this is the first start of my car since Dec. When the othere mechanic had timed my car, he turnes on the car and it stops running almost imidiatly, the time belt riped apart.

After some reaserch we figure out that there was a screw loos that got cought up between the while and the belt and it got riped apart, i belive that the first mechanic forgot to screw it stuck or did a pour job at puting my motor back togethere.

So i got my car again this weekend, started testing the car and feeling really happy untill......the water light turned back on?!?!?! allso, honestly, the car dosnt run as good as it used to do.....so, what the hell was the first mechanic doing??????

I feel really upsett and i want to go to his work shop and thrash the place, really!!!! What the hell dose some one do in a situation like this?

Im sure the mechanic will try to argue these things are not his fault! only thin i have is the othere mechanics word that its his fault.

What do you think about this messe?

Beter yeat, was this head gascet maby uselesse to begin with and its something else that was cousing the car to lose water?

Pleas help me. :/

In the UK you could possible take them to the small claims court.

Yes, we have a specific court for smaller claims such as this.

You should get your money back, you have all the bills from the mechanic, you have proof that you were traveling so nobody else was using your car at that time. I would go there and I will not left the place until the guy will offer a refund or fix the car properly.

Good luck !

You certainly need to go and speak to the first mechanic, can you get the second mechanic to write up a report stating what has happened and needed to be repaired including costs?

Take this to show the first mechanic and make sure he realises your not going to leave this until the car is fully repaired or you are refunded.

Chris , first mechanic recommended second one so that mean they will stick together as friends...

Very very sad to hear this story mate, but it is eerily like my own with my Gentry 1.9.

Carl at Mechanical Repairs in Leicester did my head gasket and when i got it back it was as fast as a 1.1.

Again it wasn't sorted and i eventually did an engine conversion.

Is there something these mechanics aren't aware of with the Gentry? :(

I hope Iceland has a small claims court equivalent for you.

Actually the second mechanic pointed out that the time belt problem was the first mechanics fault and sayd that he did a pour job at puting the motor back together.

So i think i have the second mechanic on my side.

I would try and get a report in writing of what the cause of the damage was. This would help significantly with any claims you may make in the future.

On a lighter note, if the bloke is so inept that he messed the car up that much in the first place, the likelihood of taking it back and him getting it done 'right' is very small..
