Xs Timing Belt Trouble

Recommended Posts

MikeM

Just finished putting the XS back together this evening, however the timing belt is reluctant to stay centred on the cam pulley. Its tensioned correctly and runs true on the crankshaft pulley. It has a Baker vernier which is running true and I have checked that it is torqued correctly. Cant think why this may be happening? I have seen other engines where the belt runs on the edge of the pulley, but I am not to keen on it! When you give the car some revs the belt moves in a bit then back out....

Anyone shed any light on this problem?

cheers Mike

could it be that you placed the bottom pulley far too out? or its not exactly as it was before you took it apart

My belt moves slightly, it's never come off though.

I have seen this on lots of Tu engines.

As long as it doesnt come over the edge of the pulley it should be fine.

If it is off the edge or very close then you probably have the belt tensioned too much.

Thanks for the replies chaps, the belt seems to be happy running where it is. I only noticed it as I no longer have the top timing cover on, perhaps thats where it always used to run!
