Twin Dellorto's 40's Dhla Questions?

Recommended Posts

Carbs4me

Hello All,

I got myself some carbs the otherday, DHLA 40's, basicly i got given them from a friend. Afew parts are missing such as the butterfly's etc, 90% of the parts are there.

Im wondering what i require to get my G reg 1.9 205Gti to run on these carbs, and what size jets do the carbs require... bare in mind there is no manifold or fuel pipes just the carb's. i will supply pictures tomorrow, and also the process of reconditioning them, is it wise to do it myself or give them to a company that will be able to sort them out.

Also i plan to polish the whole things to make them look shinny, is there anywhere i shouldnt polish such as the face where the gaskets seal etc... Any advice or questions welcome :(

the posts are out there, have a look in specific forum sections such as the the XU performance section as this has been covered a few times.

Also on the front page of this site is a section which lists how to do certain things listed here >> look in articles Go to the article section and there in engine conversions is fitting twin carbs.

Basically you need at least the following:

the carbs, inlet manifold, pressure regulator and possibly a new fuel pump (depends if you want to replace or keep the std one) new fuel hoses and air filters plus get a rev limiter.

The reconditioning is fairly straightforward, parts are available via the likes of ebay etc, just take your time and make sure everything is cleaned (using a good cleaner!) and put back together correctly. Do a search online and find details on the carbs, pictures tell a thousand words etc

The jetting I can't help you with, but I think getting them running on idle and to use is fairly easy but a rolling road session is needed to get the right ones fitted.

Fitting is straightforward, I did it on mine and I'm hardly a mechanic but be clean and methodical and you'll be fine.
