Bleed Cooling System With Silicon Hoses 0n Mi16

How do I bleed the system without bleed screws?

is it just a case of leaving the exp tank cap off for a while?

Im having problems with the heaters giving me no heat.

Ive tried flushing out the matrix today by doing the hose pipe in bulkhead matrix pipe trick. (incidentally, Should it just dribble out or spurt out?).

Im also having some leakage issues near the thermostat. Thermostat works ok and ive resealed that.

BUt on the side of the thermostat unit, there seems to be a screw/nut/bolt with a greenish blue connector (not connector in it though) that is collecting a white substance - i presume its some coolant leak - which i guess could also explain why im getting air in system...

any ideas?

Don't you still have a bleed screw on the thermostat housing on the Mi?

The greenish / blue connector could be either the Coolant Temp Sensor or dash guage temp warnign sensor, once tightened up it shouldn't leak though. Is it a single wire leading to it or a two pin plug? Two pin plug is the CTS & single pin wire the guage / dash temp warning.

If it's leaking when tightened up you could try plumbers PTFE tape around the threads before fitting it to see if that stops it.

When flushing the heater matrix throught there will be a slight pressure reduction in the water coming out compared to going in but not massively so imo.

Bleeding the system is fine by running it with the expansion tank cap removed, I've done it this way several times with no problems.

Graham.

Yep I always left it idling and made sure it got up to full temp (fan kick in) with the cap off. Mine does haev the top heater bleed screw but it always just spurts out (never air trapped).

Is it plumbed exactly the same was as before? (assuming its ok before, just incase it's now somehow not bypassing the matrix).

Might also be worth putting heater on hot but I don't think this will affect things like some cars with solenoid valves in the pipes.
