Things To Do Before 205 Is Resprayed?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I am going to get my cherry red 205 resprayed, same colour (well red not orange) bit otherwise the same. I have a few areas that I am not sure about. It has a factory sunroof (which I want to keep) but the external surrounds are quote tired, I have found the part numbers (842616) but service box is indicating NFP. Has anyone had any luck getting a set recently, my local dealer is looking into it for me. The second area is the area between the two side windows; I can’t seem to find the replacement black vinyl stuff on service box (if that is what it is), what have other people done?

I am going to get the dent man to go over the car before it is sprayed, the bodywork is okay but it has the odd small car park dent here and there.

Are there any other things I need to look out for?

Many thanks

not much more to add other than remove as much trim as possible, inc the windscreen, the rear screen you can remove the rubber trim and mask the window, you wont notice that the glass at the back hasn't been out then.

dont forget the wheelarches and don't get overspray on stuff, all small details that add up to a very nice finished product that dont cost a thing :)

Don't worry Welsh, I'm not doing it. I am however helping strip it so all glass (except rear screen) will be out, all plastics and trim etc off.

Do I lose the reat wiper and aerial ? It is a track car after all.

I have put matt black electrical tape down that gap between the windows. Loads of people forget it when resprayed and it just looks crap by comparison

I bought a set of sunroof trims but that was 2 years ago now, and they were expensive. As for the black finish, the guy who painted it did it with some sort of spray.

Are they doing inside the door shuts as well, or just the exterior? If they're going inside the doors then your biggest issue is the seal that runs up the A pillar and along the top of the door. Masking up is tricky, and if you remove them you'll have trouble getting them to stick back properly.

For the sunroof surrounds - if they are just faded then a can of plastic paint is a lot cheaper than replacing them.

For the vinyl strip between the side windows - the ones from a 206 can be cut down to size, but I just painted mine satin black:

Out of interest how much have you been quoted for a full respray?

I am about to get tailgate sprayed and so need to do exactly this, but how do you remove it? Just pick and pull it out?

What holds the glass in place with it out? Is it just sitting there, or is it held by the inner seal?

And how does it go back in? Does it clip in, do you need a new one, or do you glue it in somehow?

Sorry for Q's and thread hijack!

The glass is bonded to a lip in the tailgate with sealant and sits flush. The seal sort of slots in between the glass and the tailgate and covers up the unsightly sealant behind the glass. You can pick it out carefully and reuse it.
