Gti6 Engine Checks

Hi. picking up one of these complete with loom / ecu and manifolds. Its not in the car so i know it could be an unknown quantity in terms of condition.

I am assured it can be cranked by hand but what other checks can i do before i part with the cash????

Not allot, If it's not running then I'd pay no more than £75.00 for it as allot have had belts snap and badly repaired no matter what the seller say's, I have lost count with the amount of bad engine's I;ve been given even so call rebuilt one's

Well i bought it.

Checked for mayo on the filler cap etc.

Cranked it by hand and no issues.

Oil looked fresh / filter newish.

Would it do any damage to crank it from a battery to starter???

Bit scared now. The irony here miles is that i was talking to you on ebay a few days ago regarding conversion.
