Head Gasket Failure

Recommended Posts

Guest Colin45

Hi all,

I am just changing my sump gasket and notice some water on top of the rest of the oil left in the sump and some foamy white goo.

I found some white goo in the breather hoses a few weeks back but thoughts on that was that it was condensation.

When a changed the coolant last week there was absolutely no oil in the water, i checked by draining it into a tray from the freezer (hope the missus doesn't find out).

Do you think I am looking at a failed headgasket.

Cheers

Colin

No. 205 Gti's always been known for mayo in the breather system. Breather system drops right into top of sump, so typical to find some there too.

If the car's been run on Magnatec, in my experience the sump is full of foamed up oil all bound together.

I have also remembered that I added a whole container of engine flush before changing the oil, I don't know whether this looks like water and white goo.

I only run my car on magnatec, and its never had any mayo in the filler neck or the sump. I do change the oil every 3k though.
