Does anyone know off hand how many bolts/screws hold on the timing belt cover on an mi16?

You haven't said 1.9 or 2.0 Mi. But no matter; the below should help you.

It looks like there should be 2 ('special screws') for the outer section, right at the top, which must be removed. These are in addition to the sliding metal clip in the centre. The lower 2 also hold on the bottom section, but the top section slots into them so you can lift the cover upwards. 1.9 Mi cover shown below.

But a total of 6 special screws (item #8) are required, although the diagram isn't clear where they go. They may be some of the bolts which hold the rear covers to the block and head.

Have a good rummage in this topic, which is pinned in this section.

Early in this is the link to MiamiStu's online parts catalogue, and you'll find all of the data, parts nos. and diagrams you'd ever need on the Mi16 engines in the 405 section under XU9J4 and XU10J4.

Then below are the downloadable PDFs for each engine that I made, which means you can type words like 'cover' into Adobe Acrobat and it'll find you all of the diagrams with a part with 'cover' in its name.

Here's the 2.0 Mi cover. This is more complex diagram which you'll have to figure out. But it's available in the PDFs mentioned above.

Note how I found the timing belt cover with the word 'cover' in the XU9J4, but had to change to 'fork' to find it on the XU10J4. Don't you love the French?

Using those recommended resources should help you look up heaps of stuff.
