Clutch Advice Please

Recommended Posts

HERMAN

Hello I have just been and brought a clutch kit for my 205. I have a gti6/vts engine and a be3 gearbox the clutch that I have ordered was for a 1.9 16v 405. The clutch that I have recived is a pull type clutch. Does anybody have any more specific details on what clutch to use? I could do with a year that it was fitted to the 405 if possible. You know what motor factors are like you tell them what you want and they make it as complicated as possible.

Thanks

Neil

they've given you a 2.0 clutch, you need the 1.9 one, ask for a 16v bx clutch and you'll have more chance of getting it right <_<

Sounds to me like you've been given a 405 2.0 Mi16 clutch - they're pull-type clutches, whereas all 1.9 Mi16's were push-type. Seems to be quite a common mistake by motor factors, even when people explicitly state that it's a 1.9 Mi16 <_<

You're generally best off asking for a BX 16v clutch in my experience - these were only ever 1.9 Mi16 and hence all were push-type clutches. If you must ask for a 405 clutch, it needs to be from a 1988/F to 1992/J Phase 1 1.9 Mi16 - Phase 2 2.0 Mi16's were 1992/K onwards.

I'd get a Valeo or LUK unless you like taking the gearbox off.

me too, have begrudgingly fitted a few of these at customers request and they really don't look particularly well finished, one for a TD 306 even had the release bearing plate not pressed properly causing it to slip as the bearing jammed on the bellhuising casting.

The first clutch that I ordered (the wrong one) was a Q&H one (£85) and when I opened the box it was a AP clutch. I will take the wrong one back and get it changed for the right one. I have ordered the cheap one but I will save this as a spare at £28 delivered. I ordered it after a couple of beers Doh.

Thanks again for the advice guys.
