Pointers For Dropping My Engine+subframe Please

Recommended Posts

Oberon

Hi I'm in the process of removing my diesel lump to make way for a working one (from underneath). I have removed the drive shafts, lower arm ball joints, steeriing arms and arb from the hubs. Also the gear links, power steering pipes, lower eng mount and subframebolts.

I was thinking the steering rack etc would drop down with the subframe do I need to undo the lower steering column ?

What else do I need to remove and in order to drop the subframe please ?

I did try searching without much joy last night.

Cheers Raj.

Dropping the lot out the bottom is pretty straight forward, heres a list off the top of my head:

topmount nuts

subframe bolts x6

steering column uj

speedo cable

clutch cable

exhaust

linkages

water pipes

disconnect wiring

Engine mounts

Probably forgot a couple of things but thats most of it.

Cheers I think the steering uj is the one now stopping it coming down but its hard to get access to it, let alone see anything from above or below.

Do you know how this is undone ?

Cheers

A rachet spanner is pretty handy for this, either 11mm or 13mm cant quite remember, if you've removed the driveshafts, may be easier to access it from underneath. But if this is all thats holding it up, put a jack under the subframe so it doesnt end up landing on your head as it will just slide off generally, or may need some persuasion with a pry bar.

cheers, James
