Find a local non-chain tyre fitters and ask them to take them off the rims for you.

Alternatively try and contact my mate Bacon from the removing car radios thread, but as mentioned he is sometimes difficult to get hold of, often for 6 months at a time....strange that.

I'll agree with Tom though, if you can't get hold of Bacon then your best bet is an independant garage with a tyre machine, my local one does everything from small trailer wheels up to tractor tyres and you'll find that they can be quite reasonable on price.

If you do go in and have the tyres removed ask how much for the four then make sure that price includes refitting them as well...most garages won't and they'll try and fleece you out of your hard earned cash that would be better spent on food and warmth...and beer of course!

Like already has been suggested, pop into a tyre place, and ask if they will do it in return for a contribution to the tea mashing and biscuit fund.

Kwik fit are often good at this, if you get someone decent on, tehy`ll give it to the apprentice boy and you can bung him a fiver.

I do my own bike tyres, and ahve a bead breaker and tyre levers, i wouldnt bother to do this method on car tyres, its a pain in the arse having to do 2, let alone 4.

I've used the jack and car method in the past with higher profile tyres but I couldn't make it work with 195/50s
