Brake Problem - Servo

Recommended Posts

Guest teclis103

Basically, i took all the brakes off my rally car to clean the calipers up, and then i refitted them yesterday. i bled the system up properly, and the brake pedal feels fine when the engine is off. but when i start the engine, and the servo assist kicks in, i have 2 inches of nothing at the top of the pedal, and then some form of braking after that.

The system im running is standard 1.9 gti brake set up, with a bias valve and hydraulic handbrake.

The brakes have been off the car for roughly 2 weeks.

And if i disconnect the vaccum assist, the brakes feel ok, apart from i have to press really hard.

Please helps guys, need this sorted!

It is normal for brake pedal to drop when servo becomes active, I would suggest if the brakes were behaving differently before you started then you need to recheck everything is fitted correctly. Have you run the car and got the brakes up to temp? sometimes they just need a little use.

Can you explain "some form of braking" a little better?

Is the pedal solid or spongy?

Does applying the handbrake affect the situation?

Hope this helps...

Good luck..
