Ml5t Gearbox Help

Recommended Posts

bobdylan_55

Hi guys, its nearly time to get the engine out and put the ml5t gearbox on, and im still pretty much in the dark as how im going to do it

just wondering if anybody can shed some light on the followoing..

1) mounting point, is it the same, or will i need to make up an adapter to fit the original gearbox mount?

2) as its being used on an old 309, i have manual clutch mechanism in place, how do i change the hydraulic to manual? and what release bearings will i need etc.

3) gear cable mechanism. can i simply bolt this inside the car, route the cables to the gear box and then jobs gooden?

4) which clutch to use with the ml5t size flywheel (230mm is it? )

any other info would also be greatly appreciated. cheers

I think you need an adapter. In france there is a guy making custom stainless gearbox mounts for this ME/ML conversion. Drop me a MP if interested

Yes, if you take the whole cable mechanism from the donor car why not. If it's from a 806 the gearshift is on the dash so cables might be short

Or otherwise you could try a Me5t gearbox with normal gear linkages instead of cable operated ones

4) which clutch to use with the ml5t size flywheel (230mm is it? )

Find a 230mm Push-type clutch pressure plate and disc

Good luck!

Nicolas
