Jenvy Bodies Or Bike Carbs

Recommended Posts

craig_007

I've currently got ZZR1100(40mm) bike carbs fitted to my MI16 and I've been offered a Jenvy throttle body setup at a good price.

Is there likely to be alot to gain from moving from 40mm bike carbs over to 48mm throttle bodies.

only in terms of stability over time, cold start, fuel economy, change of load.

mostly finding a decent mapper is the hard part, i've seen one example of a shocking map that barely ran, would not start and used oil tankers worth of fuel.

but other than that no there are no advantages..

and theoretically.... *ducks behind wall* Because of the venturi effect of the carb, it cools the inlet charge and has the potential for higher peak power than bodies.

Are not Jenvy Bodies very expensive?

Yep but I know someone selling a jenvey setup from a mi16 I was just wondering if it's worthwhile swapping.

Bear in mind that you'll also need management for the throttle bodies.

Yeah,The kit comes with management,Everything came off a running car so it should be a straight swap.

My bike carbs are running along side an 8v dizzy setup just now,So I'm assuming the ignition side will be better with the bodies ?

Oh yeah definitely. In that case I'd go for the throttle bodies any day.

Thanks for that Cameron,

I've been trawling through posts tonight trying to come to a decission.

I was looking for a firm opinion.

I agree with Baz.The bodies are purpose made components and as Keypan and Cameron said with a good map on board they will be better all round and the ignition will be much more accurate.

Agree with the majority here, even on a base map the bodies will perform better than the bike carbs id imagine.

Jenvey bodies each and every time. Proper management and mapping will be the most noticable difference

I'm another one for the throttle bodies as I have a set too. Awesome sound and when mapped properly give good power. :D

And going back to the OP's original question, he is perhaps focussing too much on 'a large gain' which I guess means he's referring to more peak horsepower.

BHP (peak) just like torque (peak) is not telling the whole story.

Changing from bike carbs to a fully mappable/tuneable fuelling and ignition system on ITBs will mean you can optimise the engine you have. Peak BHP might not increase, but that doesn't mean it's not a quicker, better behaved or economical engine.

Peak BHP probably will increase - all things considered - but what will be even better, which you will feel on the road or track much more is more accessible power across the rev range whenever you want it.

Bodies: everyday and twice on Sunday. But only if installed properly and mapped by someone who knows the ECU and ideally your engine characteristics too.

Make the change, but expect it to cost. Worth it though.

Not so good for me as I know of no one that maps this up here !!

GMC could be good, if they weren't so bloody arrogant!

That aside the Weber ECUs are quite a pain to get a decent mapper for.
