Gaz Gha Piston Thread Damaged ?

Recommended Posts

lemmingzappa

I recently recieved my GAZ GHA coilover kit from the group buy, and I just re-opened the box to have a look at them and noticed something a bit worrying.

On one of the shocks, the thread looks normal with the two flat faces either side, and the nyloc nut winds on finger tight until the top adjuster (black bit) pokes through the top of the nut.

On the other shock, the thread has the two flat faces either side, but just to the right of one of the flat parts there looks to be some sort of damage to the thread ?

I cant wind this nut as far down with my fingers, and it feels as if it almost gets jammed at that 'damaged' point. One of the guys at GAZ said it will be fine when I use a socked to wind it down, but I'm not sure if he was picturing the same thing as I was explaining it to him.

I haven't tried using any tools to wind the nut any further as i'm scared to cross-thread it or something. I have circled the area in the picture below:

Just clean it up with a tap, it's not load bearing anyway.

To be honest, I've ground the thread off there on mine, bloody stupid idea having a thread where they've put spanner flats - the nylock stops the nut before you can get a spanner on.
