How To Lock Flywheel

Recommended Posts

S33GAV

Hi

I've tried a search but can't find what I want. I've taken my mi gearbox off so I can tighten the flywheel bolts, however I've read that you need to lock the flywheel before doing this, but I don't have any special tools for this, so does anyone have a good suggestion how I can do this?

Cheers

Gav

There should be a little hole (6mm iirc) on the front of the block that you can insert bolt or something into a lug cutout on the back of the flywheel. This will stop it rotating whilst you torque them up

The hole is located just behind where the starter motor sits.

Hope this helps.

Above is better, but it's another option, by locking the ring gear against the block with a pry bar/screwdriver etc, a bit tricky to find a sweet spot, but can be done.

They aren't torque very much (36lbft) & I've done them before with the bolt I'm tightening in the 6 o'clock position so its subject to very little turning force but Baz's method works well if this fails.

Thanks alot guys, I got it sorted using a small screwdriver on the left (by rad) locking against the block and the screwdriver lodged in one of the flywheel teethm worked a treat.
