Getting My Mi Up Running

Recommended Posts

si-mi16

hi guys, my mate recently give me a good insentive to getting my pug back up on the road, not that i dont want to already.just not having the time as of late. :) 4th of april he has booked me and my 205 mi16 in at bedford autodrome for my first track day with him as a passenger.

Right there are a few things i need help with before i can go bedford though.

Firstly i took the flywheel/clutch and gearbox off the block to put engine on engine stand, i have since removed the timing belt so that i can changed water pump(already done head gasket, head skim, pressure test) just about to put new cam belt on and then thinking about dropping the flywheel/cltch/gearbox back on to get engine back where it should be.

does the flywheel/clutch need to be aligned with the crank in anyway or is it just a case of fitting back on?

I'm not using the flywheel for timing so does it matter how it goes back on? sorry if this may sound like a real simple and daft question to be asking guys. hope someone out there can help. thanks in advance guys. regards simon

also to mention i noticed a browny type colour deposit on the inlet valves on cylinder 3, what could this be. i will take pics and post asap.thanks again ;)

Hi Simon

The flywheel has a little hole in it that will mate up to a peg on the mounting face of the crankshaft so that it will only fit in one position

oh great, good news there then! i'm sure iread some where that either the fly had to be lined up with the crank and/or clutch, i never marked the clutch before i took it off(god only knows why i didnt) if the clutch needs lining up, how do i do that?

hi mate.As said the flywheel should only go on 1 way.The clutch will need lining up otherwise you will struggle to get box back on.You could nip to halfords and get a

lining up tool, only cheap or if your good you can fit clutch to flywheel and leave bolts slack then centre it with your eye, so the centre of the clutch plate is bang on in the middle of the fingers of the cover.Basically so the shaft on gearbox lines up central with the clutch.Clutch tool is better bet really as my description of the other way could be better ;)

thanks woodsy, i understand what you meen, but as you say, im probally better off getting the tool for the job for what its worth. so am i right in saying the crank/pistons havent got to be in any particular position? i've got it timed up with new cambelt on and locked with the timing holes at the monent ;):)

yeah, the timing can be in any position to fit the flywheel and clutch. The clutch will go on anyway as long as its on the dowels.Just give the shaft on the box a bit of clean and light smear of grease
