Gti-6 Engine Wiring - Spare Loom Plugs?

Recommended Posts

fatony1

I bought my converted loom from Anthony on here, it had already been used on a '6 conversion so i know it works. However i have a few spare plugs im not sure about, anyone have any ideas?

First this brown plug on the far left of the engine, comes out of the same bit of conduit as the Cam timing sensor

Next are these 2 under the manifold near the starter motor

Also have this grey one near the alternator, i think maybe it might be something to do with either the PAS or the air con?

Also, the oil temp sender in the sump only has 1 wire going to it, but the sender has 2 pins? Do i need to replace the sender in the sump with one from another model? Or is the loom wrong?

Last of all, if any of these plugs are indeed just spares, is it ok to chop them off? Providing i head shrink the bare ends of the wires etc

Thanks in advance

EGR valve possibly?

Blue one is for the PAS pressure sensor, not sure on the yellow one off the top of my head.

Aircon compressor I think.

That's correct - only one pin actually does anything. It's the one that shows resistance between the pin and the sensor earth.

What happened to the plug, as it was attached when I sent it AFAIK?

the RS engine doesn't have EGR (nor does any XU engine to my knowledge, only the Later TU and EW engines and the XUD's had egr)

It is for the Evaporative Purge solenoid, sucks fuel vapour from the charcoal canister, which in turn collects it from the fuel tank rather than venting to atmosphere, not applicable to most 205's as most don't have a charcoal canister.

the ECU will log a fault with it being disconnected but it wont affect the running of it.

yellow plug is for the throttle body's heater element

Sorry to hijack,

Welshy. Are these charcoal canisters just a tank with 2 outlets. One to the top of the fuel tank and one to the engine? I have a proper 205 one in the garage from years back and fancy retro fitting it into my F plate 205 GTI6

that's the buggers yes

not too sure where on the 205 they were placed, if its like any pug/citroen I remember seeing them on they'd be hidden under the drivers side wheelarch/wing

may need the vent to atmosphere on the tank blocking for it to work properly, not sure what arrangement the cat 205's had at the tank end, few minutes on SB should figure it out

They are placed on the passenger inner wing on the side of the NSF wheel.

Me and SB don't get on very well, it logs me out every time i change a page!

Looks like some turd in the workshop at work stepped on the plug as it crumbled into bits when i went to connect it :)

Would it be OK to chop the PAS pressure sensor, EGR valve and aircon compressor plug off?

I have another yellow plug coming from the same conduit of wires near the throttle body so i guess thats the one for the throttle body heater? If so what is the plug under the starter motor for?

Can anyone confirm if it'll be OK to chop the redundant plugs off?

Thanks

As far as i know it should be fine. I plan to strip the air con and pas plugs from my loom all together along with any other no use able plugs/wiring.

Just bare in mind that you may want to fit pas in the future so it may come in handy.

I can't think of much else it would be.

Thats what I thought :)

So if pressure was low management light would come on???????

Auto data lists it as a power steering presure switch, so i assume you're right

when the pressure rises the ecu raises the revs slightly to compensate for the extra drain, similar to when an extra load is placed on the alternator and slows the engine down, the ecu raises the idle back up.

Oh right,cheers :(

Presume there is no ill effects by not having this sensor fitted????

I've got the Gti6 PAS pipe with switch, but not sure if I'll use it yet, will see which fits best when engine goes in ;)
