Confused. :)

its supposed to stop moisture and fluid impregnation to the wrap i believe. Heard lots of stories of oil sodden heat wrap catching the engine bay on fire. Its meant to make the wrap last a bit longer as well. All of the above may be complete bull s**t! i wait to be corrected.

Ah, I see. It's a spray that goes on EXHAUST heat wrapping.

I no longer believe in that stuff, and nor does Guy Croft. Personally I wouldn't use the wrap, so I wouldn't worry about the other.

Apart from trapping moisture and corroding manifolds, its properties of retaining heat in several experts' opinions is not actually good for the engine overall.

On a high performance, rebuilt regularly, re-wrapped regularly, no expense spared engine, then maybe it's worth it.

Otherwise I'd steer well clear of the stuff.

Go looking for it on Guy Croft's site here to get a better explanation.

if you're worried about oil soaking into it and catching light, stop the oil leaks ;)

I've read the guy croft article and this is what he says that didn't completly steer me completely away from heat wrapping. He says "The only possible benefit - if you are prepared to accept severe deterioration of the pipes themselves is reduced under-bonnet temperatures. The massive flow of heat coming off the exhaust - especially in highly tuned front-wheel-drive installations when not moving at reasonable forward speed - can cause the fuel in the carb to boil, the oil and engine to overheat"

I'm not too bothered about the fuel boiling bit!

The problem with rallying especially single venue is that 10 minutes flat out can be followed by 20 minutes in a 1 mph que for the next stage.

I was just looking into this myself, be it wrap or spray. Mine was wrapped when I bought it but it has degraded over time. The only reason it was on there was to protect the coolant pipes at the back.

I was going to refresh it soon but after reading that thread I've decided to just wrap the pipes instead and leave the exhaust naked :)

Means I can use the leftover wrap too and not bother buying any more, bargain.
