Thank you,

I am looking at a Hreg 1990, and just wondered if it would be the full 130bhp.

The cats first appeared on late K reg 205s as far as I know, H reg will definately be the cat free engine :)

Miles

Ignore all this CAT and non CAT thing, The CAT models drive better and are just as quick,

They where optional from 1991

Definatley agree with that!! My last 2 gti,s have been K-plates they drive a hell of alot smoother as thier fitted with the motronic management instead of the older jetronic system, the idle is a massive difference! just go buy the best you can afford regardless of Cat,s etc, and you wont go far wrong!!

I had a 1.9 CAT model (L reg) before the GTi6 engine swap. People kept commenting that my idle was good in it and asking if I ever had any problems with the engine running bad or idling bad. I originally looked at them with confusion as my 1.9 CAT was wonderful, drove well and idled perfectly. So I didn't know what they were on about. It was only when I joined this club that I started to learn about 205s and the earlier models having idling issues.

Agreed with the Miles (and others) comments about the smooth idling. I've had several 205's of both types (cat and non-cat), and currently have a 205 with a cat. It makes such a difference to the idling and running of the engine.

It does make me laugh sometmes that people get all hung up about not wanting a 205 with a cat because of the power loss (all of 6bhp!). The fact is, most 128bhp (not 130bhp as people often think!) engines are 20 odd years old and now are not making that power anyway.

To me the trade-off of a smoother idle etc is certainly worth the slight loss in power.
