Pts Upgrade Or Ltd Edition?

Recommended Posts

finnthebt

Just bought a 1.6 GTi, 1991. It's incomplete and been off the road for about 5 years, but should have it back on the road in a couple of weeks, nothing to drastic to do to it. Just looking for a runner at the moment, no great restoration project - starting a Road Rally build on a 1.9 next week, so that should keep me busy enough as will start with bare shell.

The car has some extra graphics on bonnet, front wings and tail gate (will sort some pics out). The ones on the wings are small "Peugeot Talbot Sport".

Seller didn't know much about them other than he understood that it was a special/ltd edition with extra 10bhp. Not convinced myself, but I have heard about a PTS upgrade that was available and this seems more likely. Anyone shed any light on this?

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds to me as though the stickers are aftermarket 'go faster' stickers and the claim of an extra ten horses just a poor selling technique.

I do remember someone mentioning an upgrade for the 1.6 gti, I think it might have been a cam and a 3.5 bar fuel pressure regulator, there was a similar thing for the 1.9's, back then many dealers did upgrades like this on pugs.

Seller perhaps getting confused with this?

Would be nice if it had a plaque like this!

Thanks for all the quick responses.

The stickers we're none too convincing, and I definately did buy it on the basis of the 'claims'. If they don't form part of any ltd edition, the heat gun will be out at the weekend and they'll be off!!

I guess the plaque and fp reg are the easiest couple of checks I can make.

Also, looking at the link in the post by jonnygoodhand, if I've got one of the plaques next to the VIN plate, it was a better purchase than the 2 lottery tickets I got at the petrol station on the way back from collecting the car!!

Sadly no plate next to the VIN plate. However I have been in touch with the dealer who supplied the car from new, and it would appear that it did have one of the Peugeot Special Tuning GpN engine upgrades from new.

More news as I get it........
