Oem 306 Vss Part Number?

Recommended Posts

Yes, I know, AOTHER topic about VSSes!

Does anybody have the offical dealer part number of the 306 electric/mechnical VSS on hand? Also while on the subject, has anyone else had issues with the ebay VSS that's listed for £38? Mine doesn't seem to fit (I found they require a bit of brute force to get in the hole, but even with my entire body weight on the bugger (and I ain't a small lad ) it doesn't push in the last bit, but the old (broken) one went in without a hassle).

Does anybody have the part number for an oil fitler for a GTI6/VTS engine? I don't have a 306 Vin on hand, and my local dealer can't be bothered to look for parts it without the Vin

As far as I can see on service box, it should be 6160 24 (3 pin) for the VSS

Oil filter doesn't seem to be on service box, unless I'm just being dim, which is always a possibility!

have you pulled the cog out of the hole and fitted it to the new VSS?

bit of lube on the o-rings helps a lot, they can be very tight.

Isn't the gti6 oil filter just the same filter that was fitted to all XU/TU engines for 20+ years? If so, I think your parts bloke is being a nob!

1109N2, I get them from Neat autos (West Drayton) when I can, under half the price of the dealers.

DAYUM!

I think that means it is cheaper for me to get caught speeding! :( Although I do suspect the VSS issues may be giving me very poor fuel economy (I once got single digit MPG figures!) so I suppose it would soon pay for itself!

Yep, the cog is pushed into the VSS as far as it can easily go (there is literally a tiny gap between the cog itself and the bottom of the sensor). No matter how much lube I use (WD40, Clear grease and silicone spray) the bastard refuses to locate, even with me entire body weight pushing down on it. It doesn't budge whatsoever. Like I said, the design between the one that came out of the gearbox and the replacement on are slightly different in casings. Not so much that I'd find that it wouldn't fit at all, but I am having these issues. The old sensor (which I've currently got in the box to act as a 'plug' so gearbox oil doesn't jump out!) fits fine.

What is odd is that the sensor itself does work. I once got it to 'sort of' fit and took the car for a spin. Speedo worked perfectly and the 1,400rpm 'lump' in the rev range was sorted, so it COULD be right.

I'd just like to confirm.

The Ebay VSS available for £37.50 DO NOT fit a BE3 gearbox. The sensor is indeed fouling on the plastic casing. I'm going to attempt to file the casing down a bit (if possible) and will let you know about my progress.

I might as well try seeing as it could save me £130!
