Squeeky / Scrapping Noise

Recommended Posts

Paul Smith

Hi

This morning when I drove the car I noticed a rubbing tyoe noise thats sounded like it was coming from the rear (could be wrong) but after a few feet it seemed to go away so didn't worry.

On my way home from picking my boy up from nursery it was back but was making the noise almost the hole way home. I initially thought it was the wheel and the rear valance touching but when I got out to look they are really that close and if i try to rock the car there is no signs of them getting close enough to rub?

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks

Paul

take the wheel off and have a look at the inner arch for clean metal .could be a knackerd beam .is there any negative camber on any of the wheels

I'd jack the rear of the car up and see if there's any play in the rear arms as it could be colapsed rear beam bearings causing the tyre to rub on the inner arch. Also while its up in the air you can have a good look round under there.

Beaten to it ^_^

It was the rubber sandwich mounts on my rear beam when mine started doing this, they had separated completely both sides ^_^

It was the perfect excuse to solid mount the beam tho :) best mod ive done so far

Hi Paul, i spotted you the other day on the Redhill grange roundabout, noticed a bit of camber from the rear wheels. As above, jack it up and remove the wheels and check for any marks on the top of the inner arches. Also with the handbrake off see how free moving the trailing arms are. Sounds suspicously like a buggerd beam to me.

cheers, James

not sure how severe or difficult it is to fix a worn out rear beam, i had a look it is the drivers side rear that was rubbing i had a couple of bits in the boot so have taken them out now so hope that prevents it for now. is there any way to adjust the camber? also is it easy toadjust the rear torsion bar as the rear has been lowered at some point and i'd like it to go back to normal.

Sorry i didnt see you at the roundabout but that was me going gym. well spotted
