Water Distrubution Block Leaking

Recommended Posts

craig_007

This is the second time I've had a seep of water from the distrubution block,I find it difficult to get this back in place and with a good seal !!

Anyway does anyone know what thread pitch in the block is for holding the distrubution block in ?

I know the bolt has a 11mm head.

My plan is to try and source some screwed rod and loctite this into the block, leave it to set and then apply plenty of sealer/silicone to the back of the distrubution and then refit using nylocks.I think this should be easier to line up doing it this way and basically keeping all the sealer in the correct place !!

The later plastic unions have a rubber seal, and thus no gasket/sealant required. Another option to consider perhaps?

Have you got a metal or plastic one? The plastic item has an O ring, that could be the problem, should be 5mm allen key bolts iirc. If you have the earlier metal type then some instant gasket or equivalent should do the job. You had the head off recently? as if the extra headbolt spacer wasnt put on then it would leak above this.

It's the plastic one thats on it.

The head has been off but I fitted the spacer onto the head bolt !!

I can actually see the water seep out of the side of the distrubution block,I did try to give it a nip up today but there is still the slighest of drips there !

Have you replaced the seal? You really shouldn't need sealant on the plastic blocks.

yep I did replace the seal it came in the sump kit that I got but it leaked bad before I actually put sealant on.

I found ours leaked with the rubber gasket so I chucked it and just used sealant instead and that cured it. I'm told the plastic housings warp.

Have you checked for a hair line crack on the housing? sounds like it would be easier to try another one.

11mm head? shouldn't it have allen bolts for clearance against the body of the dist. block? may be distorting

I had issues with mine at the weekend... The drain plug was leaking tweaked it, 1/3 of a turn and it just snapped off.... emptying coolant all over me! oh joy. On closer inspection the unit was cracked, hense the leak in the first place. Replaced it with a metal one, alot happier with that.

A little update,

Removed the water block tonight and for some reason I must of put it together wrong !!

On removal I had a rubber type gasket that was the shape of the water block itself and under that was the rubber o ring seal that should be there,I now need to get a new rubber seal and take it from there.

Anyone on here have a spare o ring for the water distrubution block,I went to Peugeot today and the parts guy said nothing was showing on computer and I don't want to buy a bottom end gasket kit just for 1 seal !!

Your going about this the hardest way possible.

Your options are:

1) Leave out the O ring/gasket all together and use silicon sealant instead

2) Go to a motor factors with the housing and buy a generic O ring to fit it

3) Make a cardboard gasket to suit if it's not an O ring

4) Go back to Peugeot and ask for any of the part# listed under '2' here. There are 3 types of gasket listed but I bet they're all the same within a gnat's cock.

Note how it is a caphead screw (Allen screw) rather than an 11mm bolt; although saying that I have mine fitted with bolts, that I did up with an open-ended spanner. :)

I ALWAYS throw the plastic distribution blocks in the bin and use an aluminium one from an 8V. The thread in the block is M7x1 and normally both the 16V and 8V use a socket headed cap screw. Someone has used hex head bolt instead.
