[trackday_prep] My 205 Gti 6 Track Car Build

Hello, thought it was time that i showed you guys what i have been building in the last wee while. Basically i bought a 205 gti 1.9 to get the engine and the 309 rear beam off it as the car was a bargain at £200 and needed parts for another car. When we got the car home it turned out we had got a bit of a bargain as it had just had a full respray about 6 months earlier, happy days! Not all good though i had been told that the water leak was just the radiator it turned out the block was cracked and the engine now dead and ready for the bin, not good!

first day we got the car into the garage,loving the rear wing!!! :angry:

finally managed to get the car onto the ramp, a little bit rusty

front wing removed as headlight panel badly rotten and to be replaced

old seat mounts removed as putting in proper bars to mount the bucket seats on

 

was now getting on quite well with the project, but moving house was soon to get right in the way of fun stuff...

mount for the roll cage in and some repair work to a bit of rust as it was decided if its rusty its coming out, this is what happens when your mate gets a new plazma cutter,haha..

seat rails in and the interior treated to a coat of paint.

the doner 306 gti6 turned up and was soon to be ripped apart, a toal bargain at £200 and only 49,000 miles on the clock

after removing all the bits we could it was time to get £120 for the shell and lots of junm we crammed in the 306.

having decided not to spend a fortune on solving the water hose problem Booker started to make his own

really happy as to how the whole lot is going,engine is in and sitting group N mounts, just a few things to do now and she is ready for the track..

also decided at the star of the build to keep the 306 clocks, wasnt a bad job at all to get them to fit into the dash housing at all, still got the oil level checker working and now a red line that starts at 7000rpm, :blink:

how it looked after a wash and a polish

 

2 years to complete but will be well worth it, loving the noise of the gti6 and the 1.6 gearbox is daft quick through the gears. Feels much quicker than my road 205 Mi16 so should be good on the track, Knockhill here we come and then on to sprints and hill climbs when they start in the next few months..

Nice, good work!

 

What classing do your Sprints and Hillclimbs have? As with an iron block engine down here you'd be in Sports Libre classes with allsorts of crazy stuff!

hello, we are hoping to get into the road car class, not 100% that this is possible with the engine i have fitted but will wait and see, not really doing it to be competitive just for a bit of a fun when i get some spare time...

 

getting an mot in the next few weeks, cant wait on the first time round the track

If it's stripped etc too, aswel as the engine, you'll probably have trouble getting into the road classes if they're anything like ours!

Why ditch the Vacume pump, Much better having that and block the inlet manifold off, Helps allot if you left foot brake as your less likely to run out of vacume

haha, never thought of that, never mind i'll need to get the hang of left foot braking first... then i can just rebuild the pump and fit that back on.
