Swirl Pot Questions

Recommended Posts

I'm about to fit my swirl pot and just want a couple of questions answered, i've read through the other threads about swirl pots but they dont answer these questions!!

1. when using a second high pressure pump to pump to the rail, do's it matter the presssue it pumps ( i.e do i need a certain pump, or any fuel injection pump?) or will the fuel pressure reg on the rail sort out what pressure the engine needs?

2. the thread's i have read say about putting a in line fuel filter, is this essential? i only say as i have to standad fuel filter in the negine bay?

3. if i take the live feed to the in tank pump and piggy back off it to the second pump is this ok, if not what could happen if i do run it like that? burn out relay etc? i know its a easy task to wire in a second relay and use the tank pump feed live as a trigger but do i really need to do this!!

cheers

1) The pump to the rail would normally be a high pressure pump that can supply the pressure you need (plus a little, of course) so for 4 bar maybe get a 5 or 6 bar pump, and your regulator handles the pressure. Just don't put a low pressure (carb-type) pump on there, that's all.

2) I would filter both low and high-pressure circuits, yes.

3) It all depends on the draw of the 2nd pump, to be honest. If it's high draw, chances are it'll pop the fuse, burn out a relay or (shudder) melt the wiring. You'd need the pump specs really, to properly answer this.

Cheers,

Dan

cheers, i also have read about feeding the swirl pot with a low pressure pump but if i took out the standad high pressure pump how would i "plumb" in a low pressure pump? i.e have a external facet then just drop a fuel hose into tank lol!!!???
