:) As it states above really I am looking for a few ideas as to were to mount my ecu. I am going to build a new loom and I may even mount the ecu in the car. My battery is mounted in the boot so the 306 battery box is not really needed. Is there a ecu box that stands alone from the battery box?

Any Ideas would be a big help.

Thanks

Neil

One option is to keep the 306 battery box and just cut away the sides around the battery untill you are just left with just the ecu holder.

If you mount it in the car, why not in the original position? This is where my mappable ecu is on one of mine.

I'm hoping to mount mine in the original 8v ecu position eventually but i'm interested to see where others have mounted it when not using the gti6 battery box.

I have just been and removed the original ecu and bracket and I think it will fit there I have got a nice big gromet off a Volvo truck that should be good to run the cables through.

Thanks

If I was in your situation I would cut off the battery section off the original box and

mount it In the bay.

Mines up under the dash on the right hand side just above the little shelf that is there.

Some nice designs of where to mount the ECU up there. Looks smart. My aftermarket ECU is just chucked in the glovebox. :)

Thanks guys I have looked at fitting it were the old ecu was but it is a bit tight. I am off to the scrap yard this morning to get a ecu box of an early 306 that did not have the battery box bit.

Thanks for your Ideas

Neil

Shift the header tank slightly to the left and it fits in just nicely. Cover clips on and the diagnostic plug clips onto that too (not sure you can see it that well in the second pic - old pic).

Anyone know if its possible to chop/extend the wires for the ECU plug? I'd like to mount mine inside the car

Yes you can chop and extened the loom but you are building in possible faults.

You might be better to by a new plug from

http://www.simtekuk.co.uk/www.simtekuk.co....ch=&sought=

and make a complete new loom. The problem that I have got is finding a good place to mount it inside the car. The GTI6 ecu is larger that the 205 ecu.

I just chopped up a gti6 battery box and mounted the ecu holder using a few brackets.

Or just just the whole GTI6 Battery box?

Thanks Galifrey but I have moved the battery to the boot so the full battery box is not needed. I have found a ecu box of a 306 diesel that does the job a treat.

Thanks

Neil
