S16 Or Gti6 Manifold?

that's funny

I have owned both in success for almost seven years and never ever noticed S16 being better at anything?

I havnt driven a gti6 or xsara vts that doesnt feels flat as a pancake below 4500rpm, modded and standard, that includes working at citroen. My old s16 with 130k on the clock pulled a lot better with the acav working correctly, with a decat or disconected acav it was pants at the bottom end. Never had any problems with reliability. Its like the vtec of intake manifolds, best of both. Mine changed over tracts at 5000rpm. Rubyna - i don't imply that miles or petert talk s*ite just because we disagree. They are top guys who keep our cars on the roads. Dont take my chavvy avatar too seriously, in this instance some of us disagree, big deal, At the end of the day i havnt got back to back rolling road results, maybe my £500 s16 was a 2.1, or maybe me and all the passengers imagined it. ive had a few s16/mi16's and although possibly slightly better low down the transition between the low and high band was shocking mamking the car very difficult to drive fast to keep it moving fast you literally could not let it drop under 5.5k?

Driving a few gti6's the power delivery is much more linear meaning the deliver is much more predictable and which is also why i have replaced my 2.0 mi16 with a gti6 engine long live the mi16! :)

from expierience Gti6 inlet over S16 ACAV feels better, drives better, looks better, sounds better, does'nt break and cost a fortune in time and money!

Those are interesting opinions and I'm not going to argue.

It was also good to see some old names in that thread.

What I would ask though, is that the ACAV system is getting a bad deal here and I'd like to know if all of these comparisons are being made against not properly functioning ones?

Mine on the ZX16v works fine and feels good; it's very driveable. I don't deny that they are complex and can and do go wrong. But would you genuinely say that a GTI6 inlet complete performs better (even if it just feels it) than a fully, correctly working ACAV (S16 inlet)?

The reason I ask, is that variable inlet technology was designed for a reason. The VW R32 uses it as does the Veyron and quite a few others, as the physical principles are sound. I'm just trying to understand why someone (Peugeot) would go to all that effort, that VW and Bugatti and others have also gone to in order to create something which isn't as good as a plain and simple, fixed length inlet tract?

I say that regardless as to how nicely (and I know it is) designed and built the GTI6 inlet is.

I think thats the thing Rich. The S16 ACAV is a better idea in theory, but in practice its French, and therefore mostly broken. Then when its broken it performs worse than a standard '6 inlet. So from my point of view the Gti6 inlet is the reliable choice with no real weak points. :D

i agree, but unfortunately most people with 2.0 mi16s say there delivery of power is random.

I checked mine loads, and it was 'working' i.e it was operating, but god knows if it was operating as it should.

Other people with s16's ive seen have been for rr's and ive yet to see 1 produce more than 140 bhp the last 2 ive seen were 125 and 137...

from the factory i bet it was awesome, but to get it working as new you gonna have to spend some wonga, i think a common fault is the vacume plenum on the side of the engine, the avacs look to be working but this goes tits, and to make sure its right means a new one from pug...

1.9L, either Mi16 or 8V, are slightly bigger than S16 injectors and will give a better result.
