Starting Issue Advice Needed

hi all well the 205 is suffering its usual weekend breakdown, drove it to swindon from brighton ran fine, been running fine all week after new valves head gasket etc. went to take the mother inlaw to the shops that night crank over 3 seconds and started, i thought this was strange as it normally starts on the button, went to shops again ran fine, next morning it would just crank over, not even spluter, ive had greenflag out as ive got no tools it seemed to have a spark and fuel, so im worrying its compression, just seems strange it was so sudden, hopefully will get a compresson tester of mate tomarrow, as normal ive broken down 100 miles from home no tools etc so few questions,

i understand the injectors work on a system were they all fire at once? what controls this, and is there any other things i should check?

really stuck basically need and tips...
