405 Heater Matrix

Recommended Posts

I finally changed it... never again. 18 months with no heater, bad times. I was sweating on the way home today as I refused to turn off the heat as I'd missed it so much.

That is all.

Worst job I've done and I bodged it! I used this guide and found it rather helpful!

My 405 is the longest I've ever owned a car now by some way aswell... I recently bought this, going to use as much as I can on the diesel and the engine is going in my 205 for the time being....

No, if it had an mot I'd still scrap it realistically. I want the engine and parts.

Obviously I took the new engine coment with a pinch of salt but it does look very clean! I'm yet to decide whether to use the carbs or sell them...

Heater matrix must be one of the worst jobs to do, i know how you felt doing it. I put mine off on the ZX for 2 weeks, I would have gone longer, but there was steam pouring out of the vents and the passenger side footwell would get a showering of hot steaming water going round right hand bends.

It was a mare to say the least.

I had a late model 405 that had the heater go - I just bypassed it in the engine bay. When I came to breaking the car I thought I'd investigate how much of a job it would be - looked very simliar to gavs pictures!!!

It really wasn't anywhere near that bad.

I removed the glovebox and the surround, a few bits of the centre console and used a hacksaw to cut the metal frame. This meant I could remove half the metal frame and swap the matrix. To rejoin the frame I just used a bit of metal pipe on the outside that was a snug fit.

I wish i could have done that on the ZX, the matrix was actually bolted to the bulkhead right in the centre, I think Citroen started with the matrix and then built the car around it!
