Top Engine Mount 8v

Recommended Posts

EdCherry

Right well finally got round to doing some stuff today, and went to fit my new top engine mount rubber and buffers from Miles.

Fit allen key into top of the stud and virtually hang off it. Lock 2 nuts on it and hang off them too! Its soaking in penetrating oil overnight and will attempt again tomorrow but am I missing something here?

The bottom bit doesn't have any flats for a spanner it seems so im lost!

Thanks, Ed.

P.S. Did search, nobody else has been this stupid before.

P.S.S Bloody road cars!

that's because most just smack it in the 3 notches with a blunt chisel/punch

there is a proper tool for it but I doubt anyone outside of peugeot/citroen has one, I made one from a piece of truck exhaust pipe

same here, although I must admit to bothering Miles on Saturday afternoon and asking him on the 'phone after doing exactly the same as you . . .:lol:

Few quick twats with a blunt instrument shifted it no problem, and it was the original 20yo one, I suspect. fistful of grease on the new one before it went in should hopefully mean that the captive nut under the tray shouldn't hang on too tight for the next time, either.

I tried, I was more worried about snapping my new bondhus allen key than rounding off the mount!

With a hex key you'd have more chance of breaking the rubber mount itself, seen people do that before then wonder how they get the rest out. Tell them to go and get you a cup of tea, you remove it, for them to then come back amazed that you've managed to remove the remains, makes me laugh anyway...

Anyway, just in case you hadn't gathered, knock the castleated section anti-clockwise with a blunt object to undo it...

Job done, some noise to wake the neighbours early sunday morning and new one in with a bit of copper grease.

Now, is 1841.12 the correct adjustment shim for the buffers? see its NFP but I swear i've got some somewhere just cant lay my hands on them.

Doubt it, did it up nice and tight by hand, couple of whacks with my hammer and punch and that should be sufficent, should it not? B)

Got some washers in there at the minute, but always seems a bit of a bodge, if theres something out there that does the job properly id rather use that!

Just cut some plate to suit, Easy as,

But I tend to use large penny washer's,

These must be torque'd up thou or they can come undone
