Indicators Not Working, Hazards Do

Recommended Posts

Guest Jon4547

right guys i have a problem with my indicators on my 1991 cj

the indicators are not working at all, nothing happens at all when i indicate left or right but the hazards work perfectly

there is a clicking form the relay which suggests that it is working perfectly, and of course the hazards work

there is a bit of damp in the boot around the wiring for the rear lights

any ideas guys? help would be much appreciated =]

I'd hazard a guess that your indicator stalk is at fault.

yeahh that thought went through my mind, the lights all work off the stalk and so does the horn and it does click up and down, how would i test to see if it was the stalk? just buy a new one and try it out?

I'm not really sure, perhaps remove it and check the contacts are all good and the wiring is still connected properly.

More likely the hazard switch in the dash I reckon. unplug it and I bet the indicators will work, if so, obviously get a replacement.

Agreed, mine did this a wek or two ago after I'd been trying to get the switch surround placed so the heated rear window switch didn't stick.

I knocked the button off the hazard switch & took it apart to cllip it back on properly.

When I refitted it the hazards worked but a few miles into a drive I found that my indicators didn't.

Returned home & fitted a new switch , problem solved. IIRC they don't work without the hazard swiitch in though.

Hazards are on a seperate independent fuse though but if your dash guages/ warning lamps & heater motor are working then its not the fuse for the indicators.

Graham.

I had this problem years ago and it was the hazard switch. Just replaced the switch and it all worked.
