Reclaiming a tube I would imagine isn't too difficult if you've the correct machinery and enough engineering brains - I mean, I'd imagine that it wouldn't be too difficult to machine the end of the tube where the outer bearing sits to say +5mm larger diameter, and then press in a 2.5mm cylinderical hollow tube to sleeve the tube back down to the correct size.

 

Am I on the right lines Tom?

Ive got a knackered 309 GTI beam tube if anyone ever wants it?

 

 

Also the best way Ive found of removing torsion bars is with a slide hammer and a copper mallet, The copper mallet is to strike the brackets that the torsion bar splines locate in, Thus shocking it and allowing the slide hammer to work its magic.
