All the crank case pressure gets bled out on your return pipe to the tank, you can fit a catch tank to the engine but you will need to fit a one way valve so the pump cant suck air in. I cant remember the ins and out but i think this is to make the pump scavenge properly and not "airate" the oil.

I spoke to Pace on Friday, they confirmed that the scavenge pump wont work properly if there is an air leak :)

Did they say what happens when there isn't enough oil in the sump to feed the scavenge pump?

There is a small sump on the pan that the oil sits in like a mini wet sump so the pump always has oil to feed it.

My reason for asking was that I have used a Pace dry sump kit before, and they do draw in air from the crankcase no matter what you do, however, the oil will remove the air as it hits the tank.

The pipe that is an issue is the pipe from the sump to the scavenge pump, if that isn't sealed it wont draw the oil from the sump properly.

Of course any of the pressure side pipes leaking is another issue as that sprays oil all under the bonnet.

Watch out for the pipes that bolt to the pump, they have 0-rings in them and easily fall out un-noticed.

Sandy

A failure I saw the other day (on a friend's engine), was from a Halfords alternator belt letting go and going into the oil pump belt and flicking it off. Graunching destruction of a £12k motor. I was shown the Halfords belt against an equivalent Gates; surprised to see the difference in plys. Gates it is then.
