Using A 6 Ribbed Belt?

Hi,

 

anyone know if a bottom crank pully that uses a 6 ribbed alternator belt in stead of a 4 with fit a 1.9 gti engine?

A 2.0 8v one does and thats 6 ribbed others probably do too.

GTi6 engine does, I have one with a 406 alternator.

and the 16v 1.8 engine uses the same pulley as the gti6 and the 135 bhp XU10J4R (part number 0515K6)

 

i'd be weary of fitting an used pulley though as they incorporate a harmonic balancer, which places the crank locking pin in the outer part of the pulley which is bonded to the hub, this bonding often perishes and allows the pin hole to be misaligned.

 

Miles sells a lighter alloy replacement that would suffice though.

Thanks guys iv got a gti 6 engine and in sure i have a 1.8 bottom end some where aswell. il try it and see how i get on.
