Speedo Drive

Recommended Posts

Evening all bit of random question here but,

Why do you need to use a vsc speedo drive when swapping to gti6 engine?

I run the 6 lump and vsc speedo drive, but have always wondered why the drive was needed and what would happen if you didn't run the vsc drive?

Many thanks seb.

It tells the ecu the car is moving, without it you get an annoying flatspot when pulling away, also mine stalled a lot more easily when rolling up to junctions as well, never looked into what other issues or what the ecu does without this signal though.

its only £20 or so off ebay for a new unit, you need it for the 2.0 MI16 conversion, and the turbo one IIRC.

Thanks welshpug.

I have been trying to work out how the electrical side of things works lately, Trying to get my head around what each sensor does has been pretty confusing to say the least.

I'm not too sure if the two you posted are the same, the one above is definatly correct though. I bought mine from Anthony for about £15-£20 I think. It seems although the multiplug on my 6 loom doesn't fit into the terminal, are you supposed to use a different multiplug to plug it in?

no, the plug should fit straight on, is the sensor a 3 pin one or 2 pin? it should be 3 pin for the 306 loom, and connect to a white clip.

Its the 3 pin sensor and white plug but the pins on the sensor are facing a different direction to those that are on the plug? I cant quite get my arm down to try and plug the sensor in but it just doesnt look like it will fit?

Thanks for the helpfull replies.

That one is nearly £90 not the £20 WP posted.

Is the 405 one ok to use, its just all the pictures of the sensors from the same seller are the same ?

Cheers.

I'm pretty sure that it was only fitted to the 106 ralley and very early 306's. The picture on eBay is probably just one he has instead of taking photo's of each speedo drive individualy. I could be wrong though, pm Anthony he may well have another vsc drive.
