Another Non Starter...

Recommended Posts

Bottrill

Parked the car up last Saturday (1.6 GTI) all running very nicely.

Left a week.

Came to start and it won't have it. The engine turns over, and you can hear it trying to start, it keeps firing for a split second every now and again.

In the last 500 miles the following related items were replaced. Leads, plugs, ignition module, TPS, fuel filter, injectors serviced, cap and rotor arm.

Eventually the battery died. I kept trying it on and off as I was convinced it was going to catch and splutter into life.

Put a new battery on, still nothing. Took dizzy off, cleaned up all contacts on cap and rotor arm, and put the hair dryer on the dizzy to dry out any moisture.

Have good fuel pressure

but a very weak spark... any thoughts. I can't seem to get my head round this... it was all going so well for the 500 miles since re-build.

Cheers.

Check the dizzy signal cable :) the black one with 3pin yellow plug on the end ... this one provides initial/main triggering signal for both the ignition (ignition amp.) and fueling as well ..

Out of curiosity , which brand is this the replacement ignition amp. ?

Damir

I bought the gen Bosch part not an Intermotor one, Damir.

I changed the dizzy signal cable last week owith one off a spare dizzy I won on ebay as the old one had split. I was convinced I had snapped it inside the insulation during the re-build... nothing to say the new one could be sh@gged too I suppose.

EDIT : haven't said anything about fuel bar the fuel pressure , do you have fuel supply via all the 4 injectors @ cranking ?

Ok, will get hold of another coil.

I slackened off the rubber hose at the fuel rail, cranked over, and pretty much filled a litre container. You can hear the fuel pump priming when you turn the ignition on. I assumed all was good here.

Cheers guys, much appreciated.
