Coolant Leak At Geabox - At The Tin Plate Flywheel Cover.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Noticed a slight coolant leak today from my std 1990 205 1.6Gti. The drips are coming from just around the small plate with the 3 X 6mm thread bolts on the bottom of the gearbox covering the bottom of the flywheel beside the engine sump.

There's no obvious cause of the leak when looking at the gearbox side of the engine from above.

Anyone come across a leak like this before ?? Likely causes ??

Cheers.......

Bottom of the themostat? Inlet manifold also has a waterway to it and this can leak if the gasket is worn. Just some thoughts.

If you have the small ~90' hose from the side of the thermostat housing to the coolant temp sensor housing (which most have) this hose can split & it would leak from the bottom of the gearbox plate due to it being pretty much the only place it can leak though.

If its not that, top hose, thermostat cap are also possiblilies.

Graham.
