Sunroof Question!

Recommended Posts

fatony1

Is it possible for the sunroof to work without the black vacuum box in the right side of the scuttle? Could i just to plumb the sunroof straight into the brake servo? I assume this way, if i open the sunroof with the engine running, then close it, it won't seal instantly, it'll just take a number of seconds for the vacuum to 'charge up' (as such) ? :)

Im only asking because the vacuum box on my 205 is broken and if i can go without it i will do, rather than hunt down a good one

i think is will work fine its only for when you use it when the engines not running .. from what ive worked out when it hisses its sucking the air out of the seal so the roof is easier to slide back ... when you close it it stops the sucking to the seal and so returns to normal,,, mines not hissing so whatever valve opens in the tubes must be broken anyone know if this part comes seperately

Would it start to lose the seal after you turn the engine off?

I thought the box acted as a diaphragm and that is what keeps the sunroof seals expanded/contracted. If that makes sense

What will happen when you open the sunroof with the engine running though..... won't it let air into the inlet/ servo line, weakening the mixture???

just the tiny amount in the sunroof rubber until its all sucked out , id love to see howit all works but ive chewed up the small screw holding the handle surround up so i cant get mine apart i can see a red tube and a black one if you look at the front of the seal from above you can see a pipe going to the seal ive removed this and put a piece on then sucked and the seal deflates ok

I think that you will loose the vaccum created by the bottle when the engine is turned off.. thats the point of the bottle to hold the pressure the engine created...

When you pull off the hose going into the vacuum box is hisses as the pressure returns to normal, so it clearly does something
