Turning Up The Boost

Recommended Posts

Rallyvan

Its a 1.9td from a 306, currently sitting in my 205 van.

Iv just dun the headgasket and it's been skimmed and crack tested all is good but a few people have said turn the turbo up whilst its off the car (for easy access i suppose) but do u recommend this, or should i see if everythings ok first? or should i be turning the boost up at all? can the all the standard engine components take 16-18 psi? Any info appreciated cheers Oli

Ryanstdt runs 25psi of boost on the same engine  It's silly quick, we beat a BMW 328 off the lights :)

There should be an allen key on the turbo, wind it all the way out and then back in as they can stick.

Have a search on youtube for dturbo tuning, there's a few walk through guides on it

You may aswell turn the pump up while your at it, don't be put off by people saying you'll get less MPG. Ryan did it to mine and I get 500+ miles from a full tank, way better on MPG now it's tuned :)

25 psi! no wonder its fast, just want it to be as reliable as standard really, think am guin to take it up to 18psi after a while guna run it standard 4 a while 1st tho just to mek sure everythings ok. Also can you have boost pipes made up for the standard intlet rather than swapping to the zantia set-up?

Yes you can, it's a square section box-thing with a hose connector on for the intercooler pipework. I'll try and get a pic off ryan as he had one. It sits ontop of the d shape gasket.

I'll ask him if he wants to sell it when I see him Friday.

Personally i'd go with the xantia setup much more free flowing.

Make sure you tune the turbo/fuel pump/ wastegate etc together so nothing blows up from under/over fuelling.

Have a look at the vids on you tube they're really helpfull, the bloke talks you through how to tune them step by step.

Having done a quick you tube search the best one I've seen is this one:

that's part one and part two is:

I would be very tempted myself but my turboD engine is on 217k miles and, as far as I'm aware, it's on it's factory build so I don't really fancy it blowing up on me!!

Use proper english please mate, people won't bother replying otherwise.

You'll find the Xantia inlet for quite cheap at a scrappy. I think it's just the inlet you need.

Unsure on what intercooler my mate used.

he's not kidding, you may get a visit from the spelling police or the grammar constabulary. Lord knows, enough text speak and the high doctor of diction may make an appearance himself.

Here's another Dturbo tuning guide.

I'm going to be doing the same conversion when my 306 shell rots away, get a 205 van or STDT maybe

Cheers lad, and make sure you get a 205 van rather than the STDT they are far more stealthy and plus they need saving from the scrappy.

Just need to find one, was having a look at this earlier... 1800 DT I know it's horrible but was going to return it to standard of course. Shame it's not a van!

He only wants £300 for it and it has a blowing exhaust... I asked the bloke for pictures of the back of it and he didn't reply. Wonder what other monstrousities have been done to it!

id recomend a 406 xantia manifold over the adaptors anyday, and also recomend a 4wd cossie intercooler to use, fits very nicley.

turn the turbo up when engine is out a good few turns as the boost dosnt rise untill you turn up the fueling to go with it, so you can still run normal boost for a while if you want and then just turn up the max fuel screw later.

disesls dont run too rich or lean as they run as lean as they can all the time, we just add fuel to make them run richer / faster. the dt does not have a throtle etc so its trying to put in as much air as poss all the time. if that makes sence.

The 306 DT were sent out the factory on the leanest setting possible I believe, plenty of room of tuning

Thanks 4 the help lads think am guna turn the turbo up whilst its off the car then run it standard 4 abit then turn the pump up later. Shoud be building the head back up tday carnt wait to be back on the road again!

As for paul_13 car looks ok abit chavy like but like u say once you take it back to standard it should make a good base car, you could always make it a van?
