Afm Bolts?

Recommended Posts

harley

Hi, whoever had my 1.6 gti before me has managed to lose 2 of the 4 bolts that hold the air filter pipe on to the AFM.

1. I think the car may be running a bit rich, could the extra air seeping in where the bolts aren't creating a seal be causing this?

2. Does anybody know what bolts I would need to be buying to replace the missing ones?

Cheers in advance, Harley

1. No, because any air leak there might be, is on the un-metered side of the air flow meter, e.g. before it has been measured.

2. Off the top of my head they are M6 by about 25-30mm long.

1 no, only a leak after the AFM would cause that.

2, M6 for the top hat IIRC, 10mm heads.

13mm headed M8's for the beacket on the side.

The bolts do not let air leak in if not present. Would be a very poor design if they did! (like the inlet manifold that leaks if the bolt for the oil filler tower is missing. Bosch kew what they were doing, whereas Peugeot didn't :().

Think they would be M6 or M8 bolts but can't remember which.

EDIT: I thought you meant the bracket bolts. My point about the design still stands, except that as Tom and WP pointed out, the ones you are on about are on the un-metered side.
