Things To Look For

Recommended Posts

Paul Smith

Hi

I have a 1989 GTi 1.6. I was wondering what are problem areas to look at?

I have a nasty oil leek from the left side of the engine as you look from the car front any suggestions as to whether there is anything that may regularly go wrong around that area?

Thanks

Paul

Could be rocker cover gasket, or hg?

Where on the block is it coming from? Pics?

You may get a warning from Mods if you keep posting question like there's no tomorrow. Calm down and take your time, people will get miffed off with all your topics

How long is a piece of string. Could be sump gasket, crank seal, cam seal, head gasket, cam cover seal. You need to investigate more closely, then it should become fairly obvious where it is coming from.

Sorry for the fast posting i've calmed down now. lol

I couldn't see anything from the rocker cover gasket it does seem like its coming from the HG area but there is no obvious signs of a blown HG?

It's possible but quite unlikely that the headgasket has gone between an oilway and the outside, but if you investigate closer it wouldn't surprise me if it's the rocker cover as they're notoriously a bit leaky.
